In Part 1 of this series (link to part 1) we talked about why beauty is an inside job and why nourishing our bodies the right way is the key to making us our most beautiful selves. We talked about things that rob us of beauty and how to mitigate those, and we introduced our amazing new NeutriBeauty Plan!

You might now be wondering what specific nutrients and foods you should be focusing on to promote beauty and how each food works, so let’s dive in.

Beauty and the Gut

When we talk about beauty, we have to talk about gut health, as gut health is the cornerstone of skin health. It is so important to get in quality fiber, specifically in the form of soluble fiber to help soothe the GI tract, promote regularity and detoxification. Foods rich in soluble fiber include oats, chia seeds, flax seeds, soy beans, apples, and mushrooms.

Another amazing nutrient for gut health is l-glutamine which helps strengthen the gut lining and reduce gastrointestinal distress. One of the best sources of l-glutamine is bone broth, and you might be excited to find out that we have quite a few delicious bone broths in our Neutribeauty program! My favorite is the garlic thyme bone broth for your mid-afternoon pick-me up 🙂

Probiotic-rich foods are essential for maintaining a healthy gut ecosystem, and we have quite a few fermented salads in our program which provide you with a ton of these amazing gut bugs. I love the turmeric kraut in our grass-fed steak, and our miso almond butter dressing in our chicken satay lunch.

Foods that Promote a Healthy Complexion

Foods that Promote a Healthy Complexion

Another important category for beauty includes fortifying ingredients necessary for boosting collagen production, promoting the growth of hair and nails, and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Protein, specifically collagen, does an incredible job at helping to build and protect connective tissue and support healthy skin, hair, and nails. Bone broth is an amazing source of collagen, and you can also supplement directly with collagen peptides. We have the most delicious turmeric ginger collagen elixir on our menu that I know you will love.

Other fortifying ingredients include things like sulfur which helps improve the integrity of our skin and is found in eggs and cruciferous vegetables, iron, which helps boost circulation and is found in beef, chicken, turkey, beans, spirulina, and spinach, and zinc, which helps support collagen and elastin production and is found in shellfish, nuts, and seeds, legumes, and dark chocolate.

Our sumac and garlic crusted lamb loin with cauliflower ramp rice is an amazing source of all these beautifying ingredients!

Foods That Protect Against Environmental Toxins

In part 1 of this series we briefly talked about toxins (link to part 1), and now let’s dive into specific foods known as antioxidants which help protect the skin and hair against environmental toxins.
First up is selenium which is a precursor to our key detoxifying agent known as glutathione. Selenium is found in brazil nuts, turkey, shrimp, eggs, and brown rice. Next up is Vitamin C which is essential for collagen synthesis and is found in broccoli, tomatoes, citrus, strawberries, and bell peppers. Our heirloom tomato spring onion frittata has to be my personal favorite source of Vitamin C on the menu!

Lastly, is a major group of antioxidants known as polyphenols. Polyphenols protect the skin from oxidative damage, they promote blood flow and circulation, and they reduce inflammation. When we think of polyphenols we should think of color! The more colorful foods you eat, the better! Some amazing sources of polyphenols include berries and dark leafy greens. Our strawberry maca almond meal pancakes will provide a great dose of polyphenols!

Paula Simpson, one of our experts who helped create this program said, “I started thinking about the concept of “beauty from within’ in my early career years as a Nutrition Director for a medical & weight loss clinic. In my sessions I would repeatedly get asked about specific foods that could help with combat skin aging & dehydration, firm the body while losing weight or promote hair growth. Being someone who has always been passionate about nutrition and skincare/natural beauty, I immersed myself on the concept & science and I haven’t looked back (22 years later).”
